Unibank Ghana Limited in Collaboration with KNUST is offering scholarships for Ghanaian students. These scholarships are opened to all Second (2nd), Third (3rd) and Fourth (4th) year students of the University, pursuing full-time programs. Each year,  Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation  funds Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pursue a full-time postgraduate degree in any subject available at the University of Cambridge. Gates Cambridge Scholarship covers the full cost of studying at Cambridge. It also provides additional, discretionary funding. The aim of the Gates Cambridge Scholarship programme is to build a global network of future leaders committed to improving the lives of others. The Gates Cambridge Scholarship programme was established in October 2000 by a donation of US$210m from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to the University of Cambridge; this is the largest ever single donation to a UK university.

A crucial National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) is going on to decide on offers made by the Federal Government team last week to persuade its striking members to return to work. Ahead of the NEC meeting, various zones of ASUU had met also to consider the offer as well as inputs from the various branches for presentation to the NEC. ASUU had embarked on an indefinite strike on August 14, accusing government of failure to redeem the terms of agreement signed in 2009 and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) endorsed by both parties in 2012. The leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Minister of Labour and Employment, Sen. Chris Ngige will meet today to deliberate on ways of ending the strike embarked upon by the university teachers. According to a statement by the deputy director of Press, Ministry of Labour, Mr Samuel Olowookere, the decision to resume the meeting was taken on Tuesday after the meeting between the Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu and leadership of Labour Union at the Minister’s Conference room.

Queen’s University Belfast is inviting application for a women scholarship to undertake full-time or part-time undergraduate course. Scholarship will be available for a female student who has had a gap of at least 5 years since attending school. The QWGS award is normally up to £500 in value although it may vary from year to year. The application deadline is October 25, 2017.

The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, yesterday assured Nigerians that the industrial action embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), may end in two days.

The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, has thrown its weight behind Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU. In a statement by ASUP Secretary General, Anderson Ezeibe, the union noted that the strike was aimed at restoring sanity to Nigerian universities.

The Presidency has said that the industrial action declared by ASUU on Monday was totally unnecessary. This was said by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, who also indicated that the amount of money being demanded by the union was unrealizable.

The Federal Government has confirmed that it is in talks with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), after it embarked on an indefinite strike. This is the memo of passed by ASUU to declare the 2017 indefinite strike. Several branches of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) have voted overwhelmingly for members in both federal and state universities to embark on an indefinite strike to press home the implementation of their demands. ASUU branches nationwide on Friday held a referendum in line with an earlier directive by the National Executive Council (NEC) to vote whether the strike will be indefinite strike, one month strike, one week warning and no strike.
